heya! TheDucksmith here, i havent posted anything on this forum thingy yet, so i’m not too sure how exactly this works- anyhow, i really like the new electricity mechanic added by the aether, it’s genuinely one of the coolest mechanics in the game right now, but feels so underutilized. i get it’s supposed to be primarily used for killing mobs, or maybe defending your realm from hostile mobs, but it has so much unused potential that i HAVE to make a suggestion.
so here i present:
the “Shock Absorber”
a new redstone component crafted using 6 icestone, a lightning rod, an observer, and one redstone dust.

it’s function is pretty straightforward: akin to the observer, it has one face where it accepts input, and one face where it sends output.
but instead of detecting block changes, it instead detects if the block infront of it has any electricity- whether the conductor is water or icestone, it just detects if theres electricity infront of it, and then outputs a redstone signal out the opposite end.
it’s a rather straightforward mechanic, but has SO MUCH potential.
for example: because electricity targets the nearest mob/player, you could use it to make a tracking system, which tracks your location within a certain radius, and then if you add a shock absorber to a certain block, you can make it so standing on a certain block opens a door, or activates a dropper, or you can make powerlines with pulses of electricity running down them, or just a really cool disco floor with shock absorbers feeding into redstone lamps, making it look like the floor is alive, or zapping/shooting you, without actually zapping you.
unfortunately i have no idea what this thing would look like. the furthest thing i can think of is an observer but blue, that aside though- this would be a REALLY cool block as it opens up alot of possibilites, though i might be asking for too much since the gravitite repulsor is already kind of a christmas miracle.
