Can't salvage relic gear

Hey guys! I went to salvage some relic gear, but Boulder wouldn't accept the armour with protection runes.
Leggings and boots were accepted, but not the helmet and chestplate, the two pieces with the runes still applied. I suspect the runes are the reason, but I have no idea, as my sword was also accepted (which has a prot rune as well)
