Enchanting table bug

I wanted to enchant some books in my enchanting table so I shift clicked a stack of like 36 books into the enchanting table and clicked the enchant I wanted, it only gave me the 1 enchanted book back and stole all my other books, I just ignored it but then it happened again and now ive lost around 40 books that I can’t afford to replace. I noticed it only happens sometimes, most of the time if I shift click the books into the table it will only take one book from my inventory and leave the rest behind like normal but decently often this does not happen and instead it takes all of the books and only gives me the one enchanted book.
