When you place a fishing barrel, it stops working on pickup. you can’t stack it with other empty Fishing barrels. Replacing it also doesn’t let you put more fish into it.
Thanks for the report! This issue did happen to get resolved a few patches ago, so the barrels should be good now! Though importantly, one lingering observation may be that fishing barrels that were not stacking with some others will remain as such until placed and broken again. And when placed that first time they will be functional again immediately.
