Infinite extra lives when fighting the Marauder

My username is Gizmodabonbon69 and while I was fighting the marauder solo, I died and respawned in the fight even though I didn't get any extra lives before starting the fight, then I died again, and respawned once again, continuing the boss fight, eventually, after dying many, many more times, I killed the marauder since I wasn't sure how else to exit the fight, and it gave me the full reward.
