Crate shop and monetary improvements

  • Crate cycle changes

Every crate (excluding off-seasonal crates) should be purchasable with OR-Bucks regardless of whether it’s in rotation or not. In the future of additional crates, it will get harder and harder to get the particular crate players are wanting to obtain by spending real money. The camping crate, for example, as of today (3rd of November), was last seen on the 23rd of August (72 days ago and is still not available in the next cycle.) Every crate can be sold for the normal 800 OR-Bucks, but the 3 crates in rotation could be discounted to 750/700 OR-Bucks. This change still holds the incentive to wait for the crate you want to purchase to go into rotation, as it will be discounted, but it does not hold back the player who has purchased OR-Bucks and wants to buy the particular crate that they’re after. Alternatively, if discounting the crate on rotation can’t be done (for monetary behind-the-scenes reasons I’m unaware of), crates that aren’t in rotation could be sold for 850/900 OR-Bucks, which is still a preferable option to the current system of having to wait for the cycle to change.

  • Seasonal crate changes

All crates from during the specific event they’re from should be purchasable at any time and should not be included in the normal crate cycle. It should be listed under a separate limited-time section in the /crate GUI. Looking at the crate catalogue, seasonal crates should be in a different category with underlying lore explaining what event they’re from. From the perspective of a new player, there is nothing indicating what it is from and be confusing to understand.

  • Subscription option

There has been a lot of talk in the #game-chat on Discord with Levah and the community about new ranks with monetary increases. A lot of these options, talks, and new ranks are going above the threshold of what a normal player is able achieve by spending reasonable amounts of money. Looking at different monetary gains from other services like Discord, Roblox, and other Minecraft servers that heavily rely on donations and are unable to give direct benefits to players, a subscription service will benefit perfectly alongside the OR-Bucks system that’s been set up.

A subscription service on OR can offer exclusive gestures, chat emotes, exclusive polls on Discord, the option to keep realm open at all times, and other non-advantageous things, which is perfectly set up for OR. Upon renewal of the subscription, they are given 800 OR-Bucks, which is a crate they can purchase or save towards a promo in the future. However much is spent on the subscription would naturally go towards their rank-up progression as well.

Another benefit of the subscription is a badge that periodically changes colour dependant on how long they have been subscribed. This badge will appear next to people’s names in chat, their nameplate above their head, on the tab list, and on their /profile. Whenever a player hovers over the badge in chat or on their profile, it says what badge they’re on and how long they’ve been subscribed for. Could potentially show on Discord if it can be integrated well and doesn’t disrupt the different colours of the normal ranks. This option of a colour-changing badge that coincides with their normal donation rank is more obtainable to players who can’t spend exorbitant amounts of money. This idea of badges has already been shown and used by staff members on the server so it is possible to implement.

I had the idea of the OR logo as the base of the badge, or a ruby/diamond silhouette with a white base would work with any colour. An alternative option to this system would be to allow subscribers to change the colour of the badge, similar to how the painting table works. After a year-long subscription, you could select a finish for the background of the badge.

The most important structure of this subscription service is that it is completely optional from a player perspective and does not disrupt the alternative of buying higher OR-Bucks bundles if someone only has a select amount of money to spend.
