(YAP) Reworking Economy: Croot Cut

  1. The Origin Realms Economy is in... a state. Most agree it needs change, but many don't agree on how to change it. This is me throwing my fedora into the ring in a way to solve the issue of inflation, without angering the rich or the poor. Analysis, The Problem: When coming up with a solution, locating the problem is step one. In the case of OR inflation, there are two problems modern economies don't have.

    • Infinite generation of new Capital

    • No destruction of Capital

In real life, neither of these things occur so inflation is slower. Dollars are destroyed from wear and tear. Capital costs money to produce, so new money is minted slower. With the problem located, there is one more thing to take into account before deciding on solutions.
    The Playerbase
The people want content. The people don't want to wait for economic change and nothing to do with it. As a result; in our solution, something new and fun for the players must be included so players don't feel slighted/bored.

Croot's Solution "Supply and Demand"

My solution accomplishes to fulfill the three criteria,

  • Infinite Capital

  • Lack of Destruction

  • Time spent away from Content by fundamentally revamping the npc mechanics of the server.

NPC's now have limited rubies and stock. The change makes it so npcs only have as much money and blocks as players give them. Along with this change are New badger quests The badger system is updated to reward you for fulfilling npc quests to restock their items and blocks. By doing this, quests become more interactive and key npcs will be expanded. With these changes, rubies no longer are generated by npcs, but rather cycled from player to npc to player like a real economy. However, 10% of the rubies given by the player to an npc when purchasing items are DESTROYED. This alone now solves all 3 criteria, but it can be expanded. Rubies are slowly introduced into the economy through the Marauder and Ores, and after these changes, ruby drops from the marauder can be lessened as prices fall to sustain the new norm. In any case, this is my baseline solution and is in no case flawless, feel free to contribute to expanding the idea.
